Fall Books / Harry Potter Club / E-Book Sales

This Saturday we'd like to share four pieces of news for you....

THE BEST BOOKS OF FALL 2012

Of course, everyone has their own favorite books that they look forward to every season, but I found this great list of books on Publisher's Weekly and thought I'd share it with you all. Click here to see their list of best books for Fall 2012.

Some that I think look really cool are: The Malice of Fortune and Master of the Mountain: Thomas Jefferson and His Slaves

What Books Are You Looking Forward to This Fall?

J.K. ROWLING STARTS ONLINE BOOK CLUB!
J.K. Rowling, author of the massively famous Harry Potter series, has launched an online book club for young readers. In October, she will also appear in a live global webcast from Scotland to speak with her fans about the world of Harry Potter. That webcast will be aired at 12pm (EDT) on October 11 at www.scholastic.com/hpreadingclub.

"The Harry Potter Reading Club" is designed to be a point where new generations of fans can learn all about the wizarding world - inside and outside of the classroom. Scholastic plans on adding new activities to the site every month.

Are You Excited About This?

E-BOOKS SALES MAKE HISTORY!
According to a survey released on August 1st, 2012, e-books outsold hardcover books in adult fiction for the first time ever. Unfortunately, total overall book sales in the U.S. declined 2.5% between 2010 and 2011.

Even though most e-books were sold than the hardcovers, more revenue actually comes from the sale of print books (in all formats).

Do You Buy More E-Books Than Hardcovers? I Know I Do!

ENCYCLOPEDIA BROWN AUTHOR PASSES AWAY!
Donald J. Sobol, author of the best-selling Encyclopedia Brown series, passed away at the age of 87.

President of Penguin Young Readers Group, Don Weisberg, stated "Thanks to Donald, generations of children have learned to read and solve mysteries alongside Encyclopedia Brown, one of the most iconic characters in children's literature."

The latest installment of the series, Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Soccer Scheme will be published in October. The series has been translated into 12 languages and has sold millions of copies globally.

This Makes Me So Sad :(

  1. I was sad to hear that Sobol passed away. I always enjoyed Encyclopedia Brown. I am so excited about JK Rowlings HP book club. Awesome! I actually by more books in print than ebooks. I usually by paperback- but I buy hardcover, too.

Thanks for sharing all of this news!
