Review: Diety by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Diety
Author: Jennifer Armentrout
Paperback: 360 pgs
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Published: November 6th, 2012
Series: Covenant #3

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "
Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

This book has left me so divided I almost couldn't stand it! On the one hand, I am extremely pleased that the whole Aiden-Alex-Seth love triangle gets cleared up - that was going on a little too long, lol. On the other hand, in many ways, I felt this book was just a filler novel. A novel that while giving us a lot more backstory, doesn't really do much to move the story forward. I believe Jennifer Armentrout could have ended the series in three books, and I'm disappointed in her decision not to.

Here's my breakdown:

LOVED:

* The relationship between Alex and Aiden. I've always been on Team Aiden, and I adored watching the two of them finally reveal their true feelings for each other.

* The action in the last quarter of this book. I mean, that's when all the good stuff starts happening, it really gets exciting! There are Gods popping up everywhere, chaos, destruction - awesome!

LOVED NOT-SO-MUCH:

* There wasn't too much in these pages that we didn't already know or hadn't figured out. This is why I called the book a filler novel - I felt like not enough happened to move the story forward.

* The lack of daimon action - if memory serves me right, there wasn't a single attack in the entire novel. I mean, did they all just take a break from wanting to hunt?

As you can obviously tell, I can literally flip a coin to tell you how I felt about this book. I'd love to know what other fans of the series think though - am I way off base here???

The good news is, judging by the ending of Deity, I think I wil surely love the next book, Apollyon.

  1. I didn't feel Deity was filler at all. Pure was that way for me. We finally got answers, and there were lots of surprises too! :o It was all nonstop and completely freaking awesome. Deity is definitely my favorite of the series so far.

  9. I still have not started this! Lol ^^ Idk, I'm on team Seth I just. Ugh I don't like Aiden, Like at all, and if my poor baby is going to be left out in the cold then, no. I'll read it eventually cause I do want to see what is up with the gods since I am a HUGE fan of Greek Mythology.
