Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness—beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily...

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other's most private wounds... and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...
While at BEA 2012 I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Day and got a signed copy of her book. Immediately upon reading the blurb, I knew this was the first book I wanted to read when I got home.

An erotic love tale that was really realistic for me. Some compare it to Fifty Shades of Grey; I found it better written and more intense. Both Eva and Gideon are screwed up; they both have a damaged past that makes them the insecure lovers they are.

Eva has just moved to NYC to start a new life, when she meets the sexist man she has ever seen in her life. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame she can’t ever get enough. But with a past like hers can she ever really love someone? Can she ever fully trust someone not to hurt her again?

Gideon is a powerful man with money who is used to getting what he wants. Driven solely by his determination of success he does not waste time on dating. Only seeking out the satisfaction of a night or two with a willing woman, Gideon is unwilling to change his ways until he meets Eva.

Their first meeting is so electrifying your drawn into them and their story. Can two broken souls even fix the other? Can they make something work between them while making up rules as they go? Are the better off apart or together?

A powerful story with so much lust between them you have to wonder if there can ever be love. Some very erotic love scenes that made me want more! I could not put the book down because I wanted to know what happened next. Even the sub characters are so screwed up, making this a very complex story. I so can’t wait until the next book to see where this goes.

I recommend it to anyone who loves a well written edgy, lustful, seductive kind of relationship.

4.5 out of 5 Stars

  2. This book was nothing like 50 shades..this book is rushed it gives you no time to learn and understand the characters...50 shades of grey is written so much better its o much more intense.

  3. I agree with Anonymous: maybe this book is better written but as a story it is far less compelling than 50 Shades.

First of all, Ms Day admitted 50 Shades as inspiration in her acknowledgements so my feeling was that she decided to write a 'better version' of 50 SHades based on all the criticism. Hence a much shorter 1st installment (though note it's also a trilogy). I agree with Anonymous that it feels rushed and as a result the character development suffers.

Then, a lot of 50 Shades readers had an issue with Ana's being a virgin and weak. So Ms Day made her heroine, Eva, an opposite of a virgin (I am sorry but for me she felt quite slutty) and I guess to show her 'strength' she walked out on the hero every time there was a problem in their relationship.

The hero was just a carbon copy of Christian Grey (again, understandable, seeing that most of the 50 Shades readers loved the hero) and I could not see him as a unique hero. There was no chemistry between the hero and the heroine either.

A lot of people say that Bared to You is sexier and the sex scenes are scorching hot compared to 50 Shades. I beg to differ: for me BtY was much cruder, to the point that I was not aroused at all but cringed at the descriptions (the heroine promising 'to suck off' the hero, for example).

  4. No comparison with 50 Shades, just a poorly written story in the vain hope of jumping on the bandwagon. Will not be buying the sequels.

  7. Oh I absolutely loved this one when I read it a few days ago. Yeah I was similar to 50 shades of grey but in the same time the books are very different. Bared to you is better in some ways like the writing is stronger but as I said they are different and I love both series equally. I'm dying to read the second book because this one ended with a lot of unanswered questions like what the hell happened to Gideon in his past and I can't wait for October to come! Great review.

  10. A 50 shades rip off !! E.L James should sue her lol .... As was said before , the sex scenes are described in a more crude manner ... Too many blowjobs for my liking. The story is rushed . 50 shades is MUCH better.

  11. If you thought this was better than 50 Shades I'm getting it. I really liked the 50 shades books, they were just so incredibly addictive!

I had been debating on whether or not to buy this one, thanks for the review :)

  12. I don't know. Is it awful that I just don't care about 50 shades. There are some many good erotica novels and I just don't get why 50 is getting all the press. I actually seen this as a book to read about bad boys. But I thought this sounded so similar I just can't get excited about it. I'm not opposed to it but the story summary just doesn't seem to appeal to me. Even my *gasp* non-reader friends have read 50 and can't understand why I haven't.

  16. I have not read this book, but I may give it a try. I have not read '50 Shades of Grey' either, even though it is all over the news and internet. Who knows maybe I will read them both. Thanks for sharing this review. I am always looking for something new to read.

  17. I havnt read a book since 2001 (and im 31 now). I was pushed into reading 50shades and i loved it - great imagination put on paper. Im now eyeing this one. Well written or not (both books) Who cares? You either like or you dont, just remember - Its FICTION!! You really cant complain that they're badly written - otherwise no copies would have been sold - JUST RELAX people.

  18. At least this book has no redundancy like "Holy shit/f***" or "Inner goddess blah blah blah.."

  19. I really enjoyed 50 shades and after i finished it i thought i'd follow it up with bared to you. My personal preference is 50! I felt that Bared eas too rushed and the scenes og going to the office, then the gym and having sex were repeated so many times

  20. I absolutely loved 50 Shades! Although there is a lot of criticism over the writing style, anyone who can make you fall in love with someone with so many issues and so many skeletons has to be given the credit they deserve!

I thought Bared to You was OK but I didn't feel the need to continue reading like I did with 50 Shades. I also have a lot of issues with the book as I feel that there were far too many parts which were completely unbelievable... including everything about Eva!

I totally agree with the crude comment also - I am not a big fan of the 'C' word and it was used far too often... it seemed to be used for shock rather than anything else!

Saying that I will red the sequel as I have to know what it is that makes Gideon (AKA Christian) the way he is! :)

  21. Oh, really nice review! You certainly hooked me!

Oh, I just wanted to confirm - is it supposed to be "sexiest" man she's ever met, rather than "sexist?" That does indeed have a different meaning, haha :)

    Best,

  26. I felt really disappointed with this book, I have to be honest, Good book for who enjoys a load of vanilla sex.
But this is nothing like 50 Shades-Trilogy or BDSM, at all.
Its a bit exiting in some part but totally predictable in others & boring in my opinion.
Good at the start, but i think its way too quick, its literally like "Lets have sex" "Oh, ok, shore" and just doesn't flow, then when it does get past the hole meet process, after a while it just starts to get boring with the same old argue and normal sex.
Its only got the slight factor that both main characters have had a messed up past, his rich, his stalker behavior and that's pretty much it.
I didn't feel that i had to continue reading as I did with 50 Shades.
So, if your not into vanilla books, then don't read the book because that's what this book is about, this had nothing to do with BDSM or 50 shades Trilogy -.-
