Review: Wander Dust by Michelle Warren

Paperback: 374 pgs

Series: The Seraphina Parrish Trilogy #1

Ever since her sixteenth birthday, strange things keep happening to Seraphina Parrish. The Lady in Black....burns Sera's memories. Unexplainable premonitions....catapult her to other cities. The Grungy Gang...wants to kill her. And a mysterious boy...stalks her.
But when Sera moves to Chicago, and her aunt reveals their family connection to a centuries old, secret society, she is immediately thrust into an unbelievable world, leading her on a quest to unravel the mysteries that plague her. In the end, their meanings crash into an epic struggle of loyalty and betrayal, and she'll be forced to choose between the boy who has stolen her heart and the thing she desires most.
I picked up this book because I read the word "time travel" in its description. Even though I've read some horrible (with a capital H) books on time traveling, I cannot help but pick them up. I just feel like the possibilities are endless - you just need the authors to do it right.

And Michelle Warren does it awesomely!

To try to explain exactly how time travel works in this book would be really long-winded, and I'd probably end up confusing you, lol. We'll leave that part up to the author.

But what I can tell you about are the characters - they are strong-willed, talented and extraordinary. Let's start with Seraphina aka Sera - our heroine - she is the time traveler who is on a mission to go back in time to see her dead mother alive once again. Then there is Sam - a 13 year old Seer who is way smarter than her age. And finally, there's Bishop - Sera's protector (convenient, right?) - it is his job to make sure Sera "wanders" through time unharmed.

Sera, Sam and Bishop are a team, and they go to a school made up of other teams of three just like them. There are other characters at the school who provide the usual teenage drama I so love in these books and who always manage to keep Sera on her toes.

I'm afraid that that's about all I can write without giving away the major plot points in the story! So here is my overall verdict: I would say that I slowly fell in love with this story. It wasn't instantaneous, it wasn't something I realized - it just happened. All I know is that by the end of this story, I was flipping those pages as fast as I could and I really wished I had part two in my hands!

4 1/2 out of 5 stars (I took off 1/2 a star because even after all my raves, I'm not a fan of the title or the cover)

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!

  1. I really like most time travel books and this one looks interesting, but you're right, it doesn't always 'work'. I think I'm going to give this one a try after all. Plus I like her name, sometimes little things like that will sway me one way or another when I consider a book:) Nice review.

  6. I am so very glad that you enjoyed this novel. I have it on my KIndle (I fell for that gorgeous cover) and I have wanted to read it, but I always end up feeling let down by time travel books. Hopefully this one will be the one that makes me a fan of the genre. thanks so much for your review!
