THIS BOOK WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN 2003 UNDER AUTHOR NAME DEBBIE RALEIGH

In the first of a mesmerizing trilogy, Alexandra Ivy, author of the Guardians of Eternity series, introduces the Immortal Rogues—three vampires duty-bound to protect their own kind even as they fall prey to mortal desires. . .

Centuries have passed since Gideon Ravel dwelled among humans. Now he must infiltrate the cream of London society to earn the trust of one woman. Simone, Lady Gilbert, possesses an amulet of unimaginable power, and no concept of the threat that surrounds her. The ton's gossip prepared him for her beauty and wit. But he is blindsided by her barely disguised sensuality and his growing need to possess her. .

None of the idle aristocrats who vie for Simone's attentions know about her past. To them, she is the sophisticated, worldly widow known as the "Wicked Temptress." The truth would ruin her, and she has never been tempted to reveal it until now. Yet beneath Gideon's bold, black-eyed stare is a hunger that demands satisfaction and complete surrender. . .and a secret far more dangerous than her own. . .

Historical and Vampires, two things that go together when I think about it, but not something I ever thought I would read in the same book. I really enjoyed this book, but how could I not, I LOVE vampires any way I can get them. This was a great love story and that made it an even better book.

Gideon is a vampire who only wants to do his duty to his kind. Sent on a mission to protect Simone, he wants nothing more than to do his job and return home. However once he meets Simone, he suddenly feels the pull of desire and the need to make her his own. Can he give in to those feelings? Is he willing to risk everything for her? Would she accept him if she knew what he was?

Simone is a woman with a very secret past. She lets no man close to her fearing if she let them into her heart or worse her bed, they would know everything she had tried to hide for so long. Once she meets Gideon, she feels desire for the first time and tries so hard to get him under her spell like all the other men in town. But Gideon plays by his own rules and sets out on a seduction of his own.

Like moths to a light they both cannot resist each other. As dangerous as it becomes for both of Gideon and Simone, they still take comfort in the presence of each other, knowing it can never be more than it is. Both sacred of letting their deep secrets out, knowing it would destroy everything. They must learn to trust each other to make it out of this game alive.

I love that the attraction was there right from the first time they meet. You could feel the desire roll off the pages. As the story went on I wanted to know what Simone was hiding and was so shocked when I learned her secret. Compelling romance and a bit of mystery, a must read for vampire fans.

4 of 5 stars
