My take on it:
I normally do not enjoy short reads, but I’m glad I took a chance on this one. Yes this is a very short story but you cannot help but to be drawn into the story and the character. The book is set over a thousand years after a nuclear war that completely destroyed the planet. A small group survives and finds a new home. As they start to rebuild and move forward, a young girl goes to explore the new area and stumbles upon the Fountain of Youth. Everyone thinks it’s their saving grace, but are disappointed when it only one works for one. Why her? This is her story, told in one day of her life.
The characters are well established and you can easily put yourself in their place. It really is two stories. You have the main character Fable and then you get glimpses in the lives of those you encounter along the way that transform her life to what it is. It really makes you think about human behavior and our perception. Fable is thrown into a life that she never wanted and has no control over. She is immortal and everyone resents her for it. And why doesn’t she do something about it. I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read more from the author.
