He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him—just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others . . . he’s homeless. Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day.

Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She’s the same as a million other girls—certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe.

When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it’s not long before their bond must prove its strength. Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives.

Blake’s heart beats for Livia’s, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right?

In an interwoven tale of unlikely loves and relationships forged by fire, Debra Anastasia takes readers into the darkest corners of human existence, only to show them the radiant power of pure adoration and true sacrifice. Complicated families and confused souls find their way to light in this novel, which manages to be racy, profane, funny, and reverent all at once.

          My Thoughts:

I know we're only in the second month of the year, but Poughkeepsie is by far my favorite read of 2012. I haven't picked up a book that sucked me in from beginning to end with all the drama and action. Most books take a pause, but not this one. Anastasia didn't give you the chance to breathe before she kicks up two notches. This book has the perfect combination of drama and action. Poughkeepsie was written to perfection.

In this book the author introduces you to quite a few characters. Now normally that kind of thing bothers me and usually loses me too, but she wrote her story so well that I got neither lost nor confused. Each character has a purpose in the story. She tells you about each one's background so you understand why that character is the way they are today. And by that she also explains why each character was needed in the story.

Throughout this book, each character grew into the person they were destined to be. The trials and tribulations each one went through was exactly what they needed to become that person. I fell in love with the main characters Livia and Blake. Livia was a person that saw others for who they were, not for what they had. That is why she was perfect for Blake. She saw past the whole homeless thing and saw Blake for the beautiful person he was. Another one of my other favorites is a Sonny Corinthos (General Hospital Character) type guy. Beckett was the hard tough guy with a mushy heart. He's the bad boy you love to hate, he was also very well written.

If I had any pull in Hollywood I would fight to get this book picked up and made into a film. There's enough love, drama and action to make it a box office hit. Since I finished reading this book, I can't stop thinking about it at all. I've ranted about it to my other blogger friends and most of them added it to their TBR pile. Will you add it to yours? Let me know. Must I say this book is a for sure 5 golden stars!! A definite must must must buy and a definite Good Choice for Reading!

  3. I read this back when it was a Twilight fanfic and thought it was fantastic then - it's still on my to buy list, but I'm a bit wary of fanfics converted into original fiction (mainly because my standards for fanfics and their editing is lower than the standards I have for actual published books so I'm worried I'll find I don't enjoy it as much). :)

    2. Yup, most of the stuff published by Omnific Publishing are former Twilight fanfics that have just been edited/had some name changes to publish them. Not sure how I feel about that, but the stories are good. :)

In the published version, are the Twilight references still in it? Like Edward's fear of the sun and the piano playing? (In the fic, it used the Twilight vampires sparkling thing - I can't remember exactly, but it had something to do with broken glass or something - and Edward's piano playing only he used a cardboard piano) Or Rosalie's character being bitter and broken over losing her family and ability to have kids and Carlisle being a doctor and becoming a father figure to Edward?

    3. Oh now that you mention it, I guess I can see some references to it. Never would have thought of that. Either way I enjoyed soo much. it doesn't take away from the story, at least not to me. Though I'm not one who gets caught up on twilight references, thanks for that info. I do hope you get a chance to read the published version.
