Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...

          My Review:

When I read the synopsis for this book, I knew i had to read it. However when I did get a copy from netgalley, I felt completely lost. The whole "tunnels" and "feed" thing had me so confused and left me uncertain if I want to continue reading. The "tunnels" and "feed" part of the book isn't something that sounds appealing so I ask myself who would tempt me enough to want to go to a place that sounds like hell. That's a lot of persuading to do. It doesn't seem like a place a person in their right mind would choose. But the actual story of Nik and the rest of the characters were interesting.

Upon returning to the Surface, she returned as an empty shell. Nothing like the former person she was before the feed. Another reason why the "tunnels" and "feeds" doesn't seem like something that I would consider. I don't like the idea of being emotion-less or soulless. Nik left the Everneath in search of spending time with her former boyfriend Jake and to say goodbye to her friends and family before the "tunnels" come back to claim her. (So very confusing to me) but as she returns. Cole, who seems like her mate from the Everneath comes and tries to convince her to go back with him. He can't seem to let go of her. I really like the story between those two characters. I like how she stands up for herself and don't submit to something she doesn't want.

Every character was written perfectly.

Jack- The guy Nik grew up with and later on they fell in love. His character was full of pain from her disappearance. But rather than push for answers, he waited until she was ready. I love him. He has a kind and gentle personality.

Jules- Nik's best friend. As much as I want to not like her because of her feelings for Jack. I couldn't. But she never pushed him or pushed Nik. She loved her best friend and would do anything for her.

Cole- He seemed desperate to me from the beginning. I don't think he did anything with positive intentions towards Nik. But he kind of acted like he was in love. But the everliving weren't suppose to feel emotions. So that was also confusing. He's someone I'd stay away from.

Overall this book was really good. The interaction between the characters was well written. Each character had their own personalities that made the book an even better read. I give this book a 3.5/5 stars only because of confusion I mentioned earlier. However I do recommend people to read it. It's definitely a Good Choice for Reading!

  3. Thanks so much for the review. I also really wanted to read this based on the description, but I appreciate your honesty in the review. I will still probably read it, but maybe I won't be running people over in order to get my hands on a copy.

  6. I feel like based on your review and a couple others, I'm going to have read this book carefully to be able I'm understanding everything! But I love when characters are written correctly, so that is definitely points in favor of the book! I've been reading a couple of books where the protagonist "comes back from Hell" and most of the time I just don't understand why anyone would choose that, so I hope there's a good reason behind the choice here!

  7. I really love this series. I didn't think the second book was as good as the first book. I couldn't put the first book down. I'm curious to see how the last book pans out!
