Review: 101 Things You Thought You Knew About the Titanic . . . But Didn't! by Tim Maltin

Paperback: 320 pgs
Published: November 29, 2011
Publisher: Penguin Group USA, Inc

People have an endless fascination with the Titanic, yet much of what they know today is a mixture of fact and fiction. In one hundred and one brief and engaging chapters, Tim Maltin, one of the foremost experts on the Titanic, reveals the truth behind the most common beliefs about the ship and the night it sank. From physics to photographs, lawsuits to love stories, Maltin doesn't miss one tidbit surrounding its history.

I have always been a Titanic fanatic. I love to look at the old photos and watch all the different movies and documentaries out there. So when I saw this book being offered on NetGalley, I couldn't resist picking it up!
This title did not disappoint! I loved the straightforward method that Tim Maltin used of basically asking a question and answering it. From question 1 to question 101, I was hooked!

This book taught me so much I either didn't know or was completely wrong about when it came to the sinking of this great ship. For example, did you know that someone predicted the sinking of the Titanic in a fictional story about a ship called The Titan? There were a lot of eerie similarities between the book and the actual event...it's actually pretty freaky.

Maltin's book also uses text from the actual interviews given right after the passengers were rescued. Reading those words and listening to the passengers' actual stories in their own words, made what would seem like an ordinary book into an almost-diary. I would recommend this book to everyone with even a slight interest in the Titanic. It was awesome :)

5 out of 5 stars.
