TQOTD: How do you feel about Love Triangles in books?

It seems lately every book I read has some type of a love triangle in it. You start off loving one character, and here comes a second love interest and rips you in two.

So Thursday's Question of The Day is, How do you feel about love triangles in books? Love them? Hate them? Or it doesn't really make a difference to you?

Let me know!

  1. I love them! Yes, they have been appearing pretty consistently in books lately, but as long as it's believable I enjoy it!

  2. I love a good love triangle. What I don't like about them though is when they go on and on and on (ahem, Stephanie Plum) A love triangle that is semi-short lived is interesting, but ya the ones that drag on for like 10 books, not so good... Book Savvy Babe

  3. It all depends on how they are done. I do like them- but they need to feel natural and I like to be given a little bit of time to see what I think. :)

  4. Every once and a while I appreciate a good love triangle. But, for the most part, I'm tired of reading about them! It's so over done, and most of the time the love triangles are lack luster. They also seem like the easy way out now, too. It's become this tool for authors to use to show what sorts of things the main protagonist values without getting too deep or complex.

  6. Same here. A great deal depends on exactly how the love triangle is *handled* by the author. Generally speaking, the resultant tension can make for a much more interest read :)

  7. I think it's pretty much a staple of YA books. When it's done good (like Lisa Desrochers writes) love triangles can be awesome. But, I find I'm a little tired of the "here's the guy who's good for her" versus "here's the guy she's attracted to" love triangle.

  9. I don't HATE love triangles, I just feel they are really, really overused. I'd like to see more love stories where there's a complication that's not a love triangle.

  10. I like "Love Triangles". It doesn't matter either way if a book has it or not. I like a little competition of affection.

  11. Depends. If it enriches the storyline, the more the merrier.

It's when they add nothing, seem forced or confuse the heck out of me that I don't like them.

  12. I don't know, I love them, but I feel that they have to be written a certain way. I don't like when the characters get torn between the two. I like it better when the character KNOWS that she doesn't really care for the other, but likes the attention and jealousy if that makes any sense at all lol.
