I had been waiting for this book for about 3 years! And to be honest, I was getting really frustrated with Christopher Paolini for taking so long to write this last book in the series.
Boy, was it worth the wait!
I think that this is my favorite book in the entire Inheritance series. There was non-stop action and fighting from the very beginning, and I loved the number of times I thought that all was lost - only to have our heroes solve the problem and save the day.
In case you don't know much about the story, let me give you a super brief synopsis. These books are set in a world full of dragons, dwarves, elves, humans and a multitude of other species. Eragon (our hero) stumbles upon a dragon egg in Book 1 - although he doesn't know it's a dragon egg (he thinks its a rock and actually tries to sell it!). The egg hatches for him and out comes Saphire, the dragon. The two of them can speak to each other with their minds and are bonded for life. What Eragon doesn't know is that the evil King Galbatorix is looking for Saphira and wants her back. And...basically, books 1 through 4 focus on Eragon & Saphira being trained as dragon and rider, avoiding capture (or death) and finally, fighting Galbatorix - the most powerful dragon rider of all time.
I can't say enough wonderful things about this book. By the time it ended, I nearly wanted to cry because I knew that I would be leaving behind these amazing characters who I have come to love over the years. It's also leaving behind an entirely different world, with different languages, different species - a place to escape to. I can't write too much without giving it all away, but I strongly encourage all of you to pick up these books. They are fascinating, hypnotizing, and just so damn good. I can't wait to see what Christopher Paolini comes up with next!

ReplyDeleteI had a copy of Eragon on my bookshelf a couple years ago, then it went missing and I haven't bothered to replace it. If the series is as good as you say, I suppose I'll have to get on that.
ReplyDeleteI love love LOVE this series! I was also on the verge of tears toward the end of the book because I didn't want it to end quite yet! This was definitely worth it! :)
