Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
But she, for whatever reason, spares Cas's life.

          My Thoughts:

Lately I've been in a ghost story kick. And when GCR received this book, Damaris went crazy about it. She was so excited about it. And basically her and I like a lot of the same books. SO I have to check it out. I'm a fan (more like sucker) of a good ghost story, ghost shows, ghost movies. You get the drift. So I was delighted to be given the chance to read "Anna dressed in blood."

So "Anna dressed in blood" is about a teen boy that hunts down ghosts and kills them. How? You ask, can someone kill someone that's already dead? Yeah I asked myself the same question. But apparently in this book you can. And as good as this book is, the author got away with it. Her scenes were very descriptive and very gory. I don't do well with imaging some gore but the scenes were vivid in my head.

Cas was a book that hunted down ghosts and kills them with his father's athame. And he took these trips across the country along side with his mom who is a witch and his cat who sees ghosts. Yeah we have a bit of everything in this book. So he travels to Canada where he goes to kill Anna. But what he never expected was to get caught up with people there. He made friends. Something he never did anywhere else. And the most surprising part of finding Anna is, that Anna isn't like any other ghost he's encountered. Anna has strength beyond recognizable. So that leads him to legwork and do his research to find out what exactly happened. The story behind Anna was sad, but the story that follows it's sweet.

I enjoyed Anna Dressed in Blood, there is one little little part that I kind of didn't like, but that doesn't have any effect on me wanting to continue reading the story or loving it for that matter. I am happy to hear that it will be a sequel and can't wait to read the second book. If you're in ghost stories with action in it, then this is the book for you. A 4 stars out of 5 but a definite Good Choice for Reading.

  2. I wonder what that part is that you didn't like o.O
Anyway, the book sounds interesting. Though I can't watch horror (ghost) movies, I hope I could at least read ghost stories!

  3. Just like Stephanie did with "Twilight". Kendare did with "Anna dressed in Blood". She changed something in the book that we all think of differently. It's won't change the fact that I totally enjoyed the book. Its just something that I was "Ehh" about. But overall this is a great read and can't wait for book 2 to come out.

  4. I've read mostly positive reviews for this book. I'm interested in it, but you point out that the scenes can be gory and I'm not a fan of gory..... :(
