Interview/Giveway: Rebecca Zanetti Author of "Fated" and "Claimed"

EVERYONE LET'S GIVE A WARM WELCOME TO REBECCA FOR COMING OUT TO GOOD CHOICE READING!

SO LET'S BEGIN...

1. So Rebecca, please tell your readers, how exactly did you come up with the "Dark Protectors" idea?

Well, there’s a scene in FATED where the hero has just sprinted the heroine and her daughter to safety, and they’re sitting in a jet looking across the aisle at each other.  The little girl says something like…’are you going to protect us?’  The hero says ‘yes.’  The entire series started from that one scene.  I saw it and wrote it.  Then the hero turned into a vampire, which changed the focus a little bit.
At that point, I wanted a way to explain vampires, and I really didn’t want them to be cold-blooded.  Sexy and warm are more appealing.  So, science and genetics came into play.

AND I MUST ADMIT REBECCA, YOU DID A FINNNE JOB WITH MAKING THEM WARM AND SEXY!! I WANT A PICK AT ONE OF THE BROTHERS.

2. Being a huge fan of your books, I've noticed that your series is about 5 sexy brothers. Do you have pictures of them in your head? Like I visualize Dage looking like someone like "Paul Walker" but with long hair. Tell us who you visualize them as.

I love this question.  We all see the heroes differently, which makes it fun.  I like that readers put their own interpretations on the characters.  For me, I saw Jason Momoa as Talen, a tough Gerard Butler as Dage, Paul Telfer as Conn, Ed Quinn as Kane and Justin Bruening as Jase.  I’ve always seen Steven Strait as Zane.

I MUST SAY REBECCA, GERARD BUTLER WILL MAKE A GREAT DAGE! I CHANGE MY MIND NOW, I GO WILL GERARD TOO. AND JASON IS SO HOTT! CARA IS ONE LUCKY GAL! LOL BUT MAYBE WE CAN MAKE A CHARACTER FOR PAUL WALKER. NO? I THINK FANS WOULD AGREE TO ADD PAUL IN THERE. LOL

3. Is Conn bringing back his mate? If not can I replace his mate? You know in case the virus got to her too. ;-D

Well, his mate is a century old witch, so I’m not sure I’d mess with her. J  Hunted is book 3 and it’ll be released in May 2012.  Conn heads over to Ireland to get her…and things, er, don’t go well.

WELL SHE DOES SOUND LIKE AN INTERESTING CHARACTER. MAYBE I WON'T MESS WITH HER. BUT CAN'T WAIT FOR HUNTED TO BE RELEASED TO SEE WHAT CONN HAS IN STORE FOR HIM.

4. How many books can we expect for your "Dark Protectors" series? I'll read as many as you write.

Awww.  Thanks!  You’re so nice.  There will be between 7 and 9 books, depending on my publisher.  The last book will definitely end the series, whether it’s book 7 or 9—it’ll be Janie and Zane’s book.  The two books that might not become books will be novellas, so those stories will still be told.  One of the things I’ve never wanted to do with this series is to try to keep it going just to sell books.  At some point, the good guys have to win, the bad guys have to lose…and everything has to make sense.  The key to the entire series is Janie, and at some point the ‘why’ has to become known.  At the very latest, that will be Book 9.

OMG! I CAN'T WAIT TO READ ABOUT JANIE. CAN I BE YOUR BETA READER? :-(  DO POUTY FACES WORK ON YOU? MAYBE NOT.

5. Nikki BrandBerry from www.nikkibrandberry.wordpress.com asks:  Are we going to see a time jump where Janie is all grown up?

Hi Nikki!  My first review EVER was written by Nikki – and it was fantastic.  She’ll always be one of my favorite people.  J  The answer is yes to that question.  If Janie is an adult in either book 7 or 9…we’re jumping ahead a few years.

AWWW, THAT'S NICE. BUT NIKKI BEAT ME TO THE PUNCH. LOL.

6. Another question from Nikki:  "I am an extremely headstrong, mouthy and sarcastic woman (Just like Cara), but love to be saved by gorgeous vamps when I get into trouble. Is there a spot for me among these dark protectors?"

You bet.  I hope that most readers see themselves in the characters—it makes for a better read.  In Claimed, Emma is the older sister, the one who has always taken care of everything.  She’s headstrong and doesn’t take well to the king of the world telling her what to do.  She’s also smart and sarcastic, which is quite the challenge for Dage, although he does have a great sense of humor.  So yeah, I’d say you’d fit right in with the women the Dark Protectors love.
Kane’s mate is still in the wind.  Jase’s mate is the gentle, quiet, strong type…until he ticks her off, which should be fun to watch.

WELL I KNOW ONE THING FOR SURE. I CAN NOT BE JASE'S MATE. BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING QUIET ABOUT ME. LOL. MAYBE I CAN BE KANE'S. WHAT YOU THINK REBECCA?

7. Let's get to know you as a person better. What do you do when you're not writing?

I think part of the reason most of my characters have strong sibling ties is that I have sisters.  If I’m playing…I’m with them.  We’re all very happy that our husbands like each other and enjoy hanging out with each other, otherwise…we’d probably knock their heads together.  We like to snowmobile in the winter and play at the lake/river in the summer.  We all try to golf.  Besides that, our kids are at the ‘sports every night’ stage where we go from game to game.  Of course, I love to read too.

THAT'S GREAT! SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A GREAT FAMILY AND SUPPORT TEAM.

8. Being a lawyer and a professor, how do you find time to write your books?

I write when I can.  And my husband is awesome.  He works really hard at his job and then takes the kids a lot so I can write.  My heroes share a lot of Tony’s characteristics.  Also, I’m taking a break from law for awhile, but will be teaching full time at the college.  We’re working on a new computer system in creating the classes for next year, and I’m about to throw the computer in the lake.  Of course, I’m also under deadline for Tempted, which is an e-book novella in the Dark Protector series that will be released next April—hopefully for 99 cents.  Tempted is about Max, who is Janie’s bodyguard.

I WILL MOST DEFINITELY BUY "TEMPTED." WAIT! IS MAX A VAMPIRE TOO?

9. For fun I tend to create stories in my head and add myself as the character. I always have a happy ending in my story.  How important do you think the happy ending is?

I’m with you—always want the happy ending.  One of the things I love about the romance genre is the confidence we have that there will be a happy ending when we pick one up.  Sure, a lot of scary, bad stuff can happen on the way, but the end should be satisfying and rewarding.  Of course, if there’s a point in the story (the black moment) where you make the reader question, just for a moment, if it’ll all work out, you’re doing your job as a writer.
My sister Debbie sent me a threatening text in the middle of reading Claimed that it had better all work out, or else.  Made me feel great.  J

10. And last but not least when can we expect your 3rd book to come out. Can you tell us a little about that one?

Hunted will be out in May 2012.  Moira is extremely headstrong and has some great sarcasm, you’re going to love when she tries to light Conn on fire.  She was a lot of fun to write about.  While both Cara and Emma are tough, they were still human until mated.  Moira’s a witch who has trained for combat.  More than Conn knows.  Of course, Conn is the ultimate soldier, and it’s not like he’s been sitting and playing Monopoly for the last century.  Moira’s in for a few surprises, too.

Bio:  Rebecca Zanetti has worked as an art curator, Senate aide, lawyer, college professor and a hearing examiner - only to culminate it all in stories about vampires and science. She is a member of RWA and several of its chapters and has won awards for her works throughout the industry.
Her debut book, FATED, was released by Kensington Publishing on February 22, 2011. FATED is the first book in a series about the Dark Protectors — vampires who aren’t afraid of the sun or a good Cabernet. Book two will be called CLAIMED and book three is called HUNTED.

Claimed blurbWhile geneticist Emma Paulsen appreciates vampire king Dage Kayrs rescuing her from the creepy Kurjan leader who wanted to mate with her, she wouldn’t have needed rescuing had the vampires not gone to war. And while she’s willing to spend one night fulfilling her fantasies with Dage, no way does she plan to stick around. Whether the king happened to brand her flesh or not.

That is until her pregnant sister, Cara, contracts a Kurjan virus that will not only destroy the baby but strip Cara’s chromosomal pairs until she’s possibly less than human. A virus that can only be defeated by science and magic combined. And the only way to save her sister is to suspend her disbelief and trust in Dage’s power and passion…
