Review: Bad Taste in Boys by Carrie Harris

Someone's been a very bad zombie.

Kate Grable is horrified to find out that the football coach has given the team steroids. Worse yet, the steroids are having an unexpected effect, turning hot gridiron hunks into mindless flesh-eating zombies. No one is safe--not her cute crush Aaron, not her dorky brother, Jonah . . . not even Kate!

She's got to find an antidote--before her entire high school ends up eating each other. So Kate, her best girlfriend, Rocky, and Aaron stage a frantic battle to save their town. . . and stay hormonally human.

I love that cover. So much. I think this is a case in which judging a book by its cover was a bad idea.

Bad Taste in Boys wasn’t bad. It was entertaining, it made me smile a few times, but it wasn’t at all what I expected. I don’t really understand the purpose of the cover OR the title. Neither seems to fit.  I expected something dark and twisted, and I got light and fun. Not a bad thing, just an unexpected thing.

Enjoying all aspects of this story requires you to suspend a great deal of disbelief, and perhaps I just wasn’t in the mood to do that when I read Bad Taste in Boys, because the unlikelihood of all of it was too much for me to handle at times. It wasn’t just the zombies, but also the protagonist, Kate. She was extremely smart and geeky, and yet she hung with the popular girls and had the attention of the popular jocks in school. There was nothing the girl couldn’t do, and I just had a hard time buying into it.

I finished the book in a day, so obviously I did enjoy it. Nothing annoyed me to the point of giving up. I wanted to see it through to the end. It was cute. If you’re looking for something light and fun, Bad Taste in Boys will deliver.

3.5/5 Stars

  1. Good review. I appreciate your honesty. I have it on my TBR. It is nice to know what to expect. I thought it was going to be dark. Now I know to read it when I want a lighter read. Thanks!

  2. Thanks for an honest review. It does seem like it would be a darker story. I do enjoy lighter reads from time to time though so maybe I'll have to get this one from the library instead of buying it.

  3. Great honest review. I was actually looking forward to this one. But somehow with all the school stuff, the massive TBR and the blog tours, I forgot all about it. I know what you mean by entertaining but not that enjoyable.
