REVIEW: ANGEL BURN BY L.A. WEATHERLY

Willow knows she’s different from other girls, and not just because she loves tinkering with cars. Willow has a gift. She can look into the future and know people’s dreams and hopes, their sorrows and regrets, just by touching them. She has no idea where this power comes from. But the assassin, Alex, does. Gorgeous, mysterious Alex knows more about Willow than Willow herself. He knows that her powers link to dark and dangerous forces, and that he’s one of the few humans left who can fight them. When Alex finds himself falling in love with his sworn enemy, he discovers that nothing is as it seems, least of all good and evil. In the first book in an action-packed, romantic trilogy, L..A. Weatherly sends readers on a thrill-ride of a road trip - and depicts the human race at the brink of a future as catastrophic as it is deceptively beautiful.
They’re out for your soul . . . and they don’t have heaven in mind.

Angel Burn has to be one of my favorite angel books - hands down. I love the story, I love the premise and I love the characters. There were a few flaws in the book, but we'll get to those later.

The basic idea behind the story is that the world in which angels are currently living is dying out - and the angels are trying to see if they can survive here on Earth. They can...but only if they feed off of humans, making us sick and weak. So when you're all happy and ecstatic that you've seen an angel, you actually have no idea that they are slowly killing you. The damage that angels leave behind on humans is called Angel Burn.

There is hope though. Angel Killers are out there trying to protect humans. And that's where we meet out male hero: Alex. He's charming, he's sexy and he's vulnerable - which only makes us love him even more. He's also incredibly smart and when he's sent to kill our heroine, Willow, he doesn't just do what he's told.

Willow is a decent character for me, but not spectacular. She's a little too helpless for my tastes, and has an extremely low self-esteem. She does redeem herself in the end, but at that point, I found myself wondering if I even cared whether she lived or died.

The one huge flaw I found in this book is that our two character spend A LOT of time falling in love, and actually saying they love each other. It was just too much of "does he love me?", "does he love me not?" for me. I think more of the pages could've been spent on moving the story along at a faster pace.

Nonetheless, I am definitely interested in reading the next book in this series: Angel Fire and finding out what happens to both Willow & Alex.

4 out of 5 stars.

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!!

  1. Thank you for the review. I've been running across this book on Amazon a lot lately and I do want to read it but I'm holding off on buying it for the time being.

I do enjoy reading about a strong, self-confident female but at the same time I do like when some characters (whether male or female) are not so sure of themselves but find the strength to rise above it and become more confident.

Anyway, the premise of the books sounds very interesting and definitely different from any other angel related books I've read. :)

  3. I just read the review for the second book and had to come back and see what you said about the first one. It sounds like it is more of the set up book so more slow building. Still, sounds like a good read.

    Thanks for the review!
