In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.
Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

My Thoughts:

This book was my first "Dystopian" read. Damaris read this book and she would not stop talking about it. She insisted that I read it, so I did. And I must say, that I'm glad she insisted on it. I don't usually read "Dystopian" books. So I would have never picked it up on my own. But when I read it. I was like "WOW" because this book was soooo good. I loved it. It was a definite page turner. This is an amazing read! And the author is only 22 years old. What an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. Congratulations Veronica!

So in "Divergent" they live in a Dystopian society. And in this society you have five factions. Each faction has it's own philosophy each one follows. They all have different dress codes and different approach about life in general. In this society when teenagers turn 16 they are given an aptitude test in which determines what faction they belong to. Then they are given the chance to chose which one they want to join.

Tris is a girl that doesn't know what to do exactly. Her way of thinking makes her unique. Which makes her uncertain of which faction to chose. Being brought up Abnegation and having thoughts outside the Abnegation faction makes things complicated for her. So choosing what faction she should go into becomes overwhelming for her. But in the faction Tris chose, she goes through brutal initiations. She quickly had to learn how to defend herself or get kicked out the faction. Having endured pain like she never did, she had to kick up a notch or two or three. But once she did, she surprised a whole lot of people.

There were so many characters in this book that made it such a great read. I have to mention my second favorite next to Tris of course. And his name is "Four", that's right like the number. As you read further into that book, you'll find out why his name is four. Four is the initiation trainer. But the thing about Four is that although he has leadership and power, it doesn't go to his head. He literally wants the newbies to learn and process the right of way in his faction. He is a perfect example of how a leader should be. His story is a good story. I think everyone will fall in love with him. I know I did.

I really really love this book! This is by far now the best book I've read this year! An extremely amazing read. Veronica Roth outdid herself in this one. I can't wait to see what masterpiece she has waiting for us in her second book to this series. This is an ABSOLUTE MUST BUY! MUST READ! "A Most Definite "Good Choice for Reading!"

  3. I'm dying to read this one. I try not to buy hardcovers unless I've read and already know I love them, so I'm waiting for my library to get this. The wait has been incredibly hard, especially when I'm reading all these rave reviews for it, but I can't seem to stop reading about how awesome the book is.
I had no idea the author was so young! Makes me feel like I should have accomplished a little more... Haha, oh well.

Great review, I enjoyed reading it even if it made me even more anxious ;)

  5. I'm glad you liked the book so much! I did too. Same with Insurgent. :)

  6. I thought this book was ok, but for a reason that still eludes me, I never did fall in love with it. Maybe because I was trying to read this and 2 other books at the same time. I do still plan on reading Insurgent (someday), and I really do hope I like it better than I liked Divergent. I kind of feel like I'm missing out by not being as "gaga" as everyone else has been about this series.
