Review: Clarity by Kim Harrington

Hardcover, 256 pages
Expected publication: March 1st 2011
Scholastic

When you can see things others can't, where do you look for the truth?
This paranormal murder mystery will have teens reading on the edge of their seats.

Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift.
And a curse.

When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case--but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother--who has supernatural gifts of his own--becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?

For such a tiny book, Clarity has a little bit of everything. You get lost inside a small town where everyone knows everyone, secrets are not an option and crime really isn't an issue. Clare and her family are well known in her small little town. Her mother can read thoughts, Clare can see things by just touching them, and her brother can see and talk to the dead. Of course the town thinks they are freaks and don't really believe in their psychic powers, but all that changes when a girl is found murdered in a local hotel room. Running out of options, they decide to turn to Clare and her family for help.

At first Clare doesn't really like the idea and does not want to be working along side her ex-boyfriend or the new guy, who makes her stomach do flips every time he's around. She still goes along with it and decides to help and begins to uncover BIG and Dark secrets of certain people in the town. Everyone seems to have a connection with the dead girl, including her brother.

Clarity was very suspenseful and full of humor. The characters were so well developed, the story was fast paced and definitely had me on the edge. Clare was a very fun character. She was bold, funny and not really afraid of anything. She did not care what others thought about her or her family.

So if you're looking for an easy and fast read that has a little bit of everything in it, Clarity is it! I loved it and would definitely reread it.

5 out of 5 Stars!
