Author Interview & giveaway with A.M. Robinson!

First, let’s start off by introducing yourself to everyone and telling us a bit about you.

Hi! I’m A. M. I work with books all day, and then I write books all night. Except when I am sleeping. Or watching TV. Or playing strange video games. Or bugging my cats . . . Okay, I should write more.

Can you tell us a little bit about your book “Vampire Crush?”

Vampire Crush is a slightly tongue-in-cheek romp through the teen vampire romance genre told in the voice of Sophie McGee, a high school junior whose one goal in life is to be named editor in chief of her school newspaper. Unfortunately, her make-or-break-it assignment is kind of a dud: She has to interview five of the school’s new students for a special profile feature. But things soon get more interesting. For one thing, the new students are weird, and up to something nefarious. For another, James, her childhood best friend/nemesis, is back in town and cuter than ever. He also has a mysterious connection to the new students that’s Sophie’s determined to figure out.

I am sure you get asked this question a lot, but what would you say makes your book “Vampire Crush” different than Twilight?

For the most part, I think Twilight is a drama, filled with angst and eternal longing and all of the other stuff that makes really great angry poetry. Vampire Crush has its serious moments, but it’s primarily a comedy. There’s also a vampire luau.

Do you plan on making Vampire Crush a series or is it a standalone book?

I am hoping that it will be a series, although I imagine that depends on the reception of Vampire Crush! Whenever I type “Vampire Crush” into Goodreads it says “Did you mean ‘Vampire Virus’?” so I think I’ve already got the title.

If you could cast your characters on the big screen, who would you pick and why?

Emma Stone is Sophie! I will fight people on this. I loved her in Easy A, and she has great comedic timing. She also has freckles, which is equally important.

For James, I’d choose Ethan Peck, who was most recently Patrick in the 10 Things I Hate About You TV series—I won’t fight you on this, but if you suggested otherwise, I might scoff. The black curly hair is perfect, and his snarky repartee skills are A+.

And finally, I’d choose Benjamin Walker for Vlad, the villain of Vampire Crush. He’s already perfected the art of looking good with blood on your shirt and his turn as Andrew Jackson in the Broadway musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson proves that he can be obnoxiously arrogant in a funny way.

Now, Let’s play fill in the blanks!

I find ___Spike____ to be the sexiest Vampire ever!. . . Old vampire crushes die hard.

I am so TEAM ____Peeta!

The greatest thing about love stories is the witty banter!

_______Pumpkin chai tea___is one of my biggest guilty pleasures because it is pumpkin in a cup!_And perfect for cold winter days.

I would give everything up in a heartbeat for_an unlimited fuzzy scarf collection_.

Paperback, 336 pages
Expected publication: December 28th 2010 by HarperTeen
I swear, my life was always totally normal.

Normal house, normal family, normal school. My looks are average, I don't have any superpowers, no one's showing up to tell me I'm a princess—you get the picture. But when my junior year started, something not normal happened. There were new kids at school . . . new kids with a wardrobe straight out of a 19th-century romance novel, and an inexplicable desire to stay at school until sundown.

And on top of that, James Hallowell showed up. James, who stole my sandwiches in fourth grade and teased me mercilessly through middle school. James, who now seems to have the power to make my heart race any time he comes near.

But something weird is going on. Because James rarely goes out during the day. And he seems stronger than your typical guy. And he knows the new kids, all of whom seem to be harboring some kind of deep secret. . . .
