REVIEW: CLOCKWORK ANGEL BY CASSANDRA CLARE

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos. Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, Tessa soon learns that she herself has a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: Jem and Will. Tessa soon realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

I am a huge Cassandra Claire fan, so I was so excited to have my cousin send me a copy of this newly-released novel. I was not disappointed…and I’m actually a little angry at myself for reading it so quickly – when now I’ll just have to wait that much longer til the second book!

The action in this novel starts off immediately. There is tons of magic, mystery and chemistry between the characters. You know, I was definiltey afraid that this book was going to be too much like Claire’s other set of novels: The Mortal Instruments, but my fears were alleviated immediately. The books are completely different. Their all based on the same kind of paranormal character (shadow hunters, downworlders, etc…), but its good to see the different story-lines going on.

The only issue I have with this book is the love story. Unless I’m wrong with where Cassandra is going with this, I don’t see how Tessa and Will are going to end up together. I just don’t feel the chemistry between them. Hopefully this is something that she will rectify in the second novel. Personally (and you’ll understand this more when you read the novel…which you should!), I think that she should end up with Jem. He’s caring, protective and doesn’t seem to have as much emotional baggage as Will. Let me know your take on this :)

I definitely recommend that you read this if you haven’t read anything by Claire. She’s a fantastic author and her stories are full of entertainment. Check it out! I can’t wait to get the next one!

4 out of 5 stars.

  3. I still don't know what team I am on. I think I need more info on Will, and what he is hiding. There are things I like in both of the guys and things I don't care for as much. I guess I will just have to wait ( forever it feels like) for the next one!
