Halloween Spooktacular Giveaway! (Part Two)

Halloween Spooktacular Giveaway
Once Upon a Twilight, and Good Choice Reading would like to Welcome Author of Intrinsical, Lani Woodland. We were lucky enough to interview Lani about her latest book, Intrinsical. So, check it out and make sure to check out our giveaway at the end of this post.

1. When you began writting this story, was Yara from Brazil?, and what made you choose Brazil?
When I first started the story I didn’t have Yara from Brazil. That happened after about five drafts, when I really got a feeling who she was and what her back story was. I chose Brazil because my husband lived there for a year and a half and loved it.
My main character’s name was originally Abby. But when I changed her history I wanted a name that would reflect her father’s culture. I started searching for Brazilian names. I fell in love with the name Yara as soon as I saw it. It was beautiful and when I found out it meant ‘water lady’ I immediately changed Abby’s name to Yara.
2. In Intrinsical , who did you enjoy writing the most about and why? and who would you say was your least favorite and why?
I think my favorite person to write was Brent. I loved his dry sense of humor and flirty comments. I named the character Brent after my older brother, who died when I was in high school. I really didn’t mean to do it but I ended up putting a lot of my brother’s personality into my character. It was like spending time with my big brother again. I loved it. I honestly didn’ t have a least favorite character to write. They were all fun and hard in their own ways.
3. How did you come to picking Waker as Yara's family history? Did you try other name or gifts before waker?
I can’t even remember how I came up with the term Waker. I wanted her to be able to not just see ghosts but talk to them as well and I wanted that to be a family trait. I also wanted to have it called something and it ended up being Waker. Once I picked that word, it seemed perfect.
4. When it was time to do the cover for Intrinsical, did you know always you would pick that important scene in the book to portray?
No. At first I thought I’d take a picture of her in the groves. When I got back the images they weren’t dynamic enough. My friend Alma suggested the underwater pictures. When I discussed that with my publisher Kamilla, she agreed. When we got back those pictures we knew they were the ones. They captured the essence of the story.
5. Do you have any future ideas for a new story or series or do you plan to con't writing about Yara or Pendrell?
I’m currently working on several projects. One is the sequel to Intrisnical. So yes, Yara’s journey into her progressing Waker abilites will continue. The other is a short story for an anthology and the third is a completely different YA series that I’m co-authoring with my friend Melonie.
6. What are 3 books you can recommend to your readers, that you consider must reads right now?
This question is always so hard. It seems like every time I answer this question I give different answers. Right this moment I would say the books people should read are
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. The woman is a genius.
I’m also currently addicted to the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent. They start with My Soul to Take.
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White. That book was so much fun!
