Review: A Season of Eden by J.M Warwick

He's my teacher. I shouldn't be alone with him. But I can't help that he's irresistible.

I let the door silently close at my back. He stared at me, and a taut quiet stretched between us.

"I like hearing you play," I said, moving toward him.

He turned, in sync with my slow approach. He looked up at me but didn't say anything. I rested my clammy hand on the cold, slick body of the baby grand. "May I?"

The muscles in his throat shifted, then he swallowed. "Eden."

My knees weakened, like a soft tickling kiss had just been blown against the backs of them. "Is it okay?" I asked.

His gaze held mine like two hands joined. He understood what I was really asking.

"Let me stay," I said. "Please."

"You're going to get me in trouble," he said.

What do you when you're attracted to someone that you're absolutely forbidden to be attracted to? And what do you do when this person is so alluring both physically and emotionally, that you can't help but be drawn to them?

These are the questions eighteen year old Eden has been asking herself. She is a senior in high school, with a rich father who is never home, and a stepmother who shops all day. Eden's mother died when she was young and ever since her father has never been the same. Eden emerses herself in school and her friends to escape the empty life she has at home. Her best friend Brielle and her boyfriend Matt are all she has for support. But as Eden starts to lose interest in Matt, the new music teacher Mr. Christian catches her eye.

James Christian is twenty two and fresh out of college. He always loved music, and has dreamed of being a music teacher. One his first day at Palos Verdes Prep, Mr. Christian is anxious to meet his first class of students. Most of the student taking Concert Choir thought it would be an easy A, especially Eden. She didn't however anticipate how young and attractive this new teacher would be.

What begins as an innocent bond between student and teacher, turns into something more. As much as Mr. Christian likes Eden, he knows a relationship with her could cause him to lose his job. But one's feelings cannot merely be turned off like a light switch.....

From the moment I started reading, I liked this book. With every page I was intrigued and had to know what would happen next. It wouldn't be hard to slip into Eden's shoes and understand what she's going through. To her, Mr. Christian becomes not only a friend, but a shoulder to cry on. They are so close in age that it doesn't feel 'wrong' to her to want to be with him. When it comes down to it, doesn't everyone need someone to run to?

I give this book five stars because it opens you up to new possibilities and in the end you're merely just rooting for a boy and a girl. And while the author has no plans at present to write a sequel book, I will keep hoping anyway!
