Review: Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles (lisa)

"When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created "perfect" life is about to unravel before her eyes. She's forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for-her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect. Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more. In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart."

From the moment I started this book I couldn't put it down. Brittany and Alex start off hating each other, and that's what pulled me in. They're from two different worlds, she's the popular rich girl and he's the tattooed bad boy who just happens to be in a dangerous gang. Though they fight their mutual attraction in the beginning, the more time they spend together the harder it is for either of them to deny it. Even when Brittany's parents and friends tell her to stay away from Alex, she doesn't listen because she knows she's in love with him. Its forbidden love, but in my opinion that's the best kind! This book has romance, action and a little suspense. The author alternates chapters from Brittany's point of view to Alex's, but it works because you really get an understanding of their feelings. I would recommend this to anyone who loves LOVE. Its Romeo and Juliet in chemistry class, but without the tragic ending!

  1. I loved this book! I really didn't think I would when I picked it up, but then I started reading the first chapter and I was hooked. Alternating the chapters between Brittany and Alex was a great way for Simone Elkeles to let us get to know them. This was a great Romeo and Juliet story for me, happy endings are preferred over the hole in my chest feeling. :)

  3. No, not yet. I lost track of when it was coming out. I guess I know what I'm picking up at the bookstore (along with a few about firefighters, SEALS, a magician and possibly a girl with a tattoo). What does Lisa think of it so far?

  4. I really like it so far. I was worried that it was gonna be the same story again, but it's not. It takes place two years after the first book...minus the epilogue. Carlos is Alex's younger brother, and he is just as sexy! Can't wait to see how it ends. You should definetly read it, and there's a trailer on amazon!

  5. Just watched the trailer, looks good! It may even have sold my daughter on reading it, and she doesn't like romance. I'm definitely going to have to read it!

  9. Oh my God! Same here! When i started reading this book, i absolutely couldn't put it down! I finished it in less than a day! I loved their banters and bickering. I loved the alternating of chapters. I loved almost everything about the book although i kind of didn't like the epilogue. I was like, "what the heck?!" -__- I also loved loved Sierra and Doug! I want to have friends like them! (:

Anyway, short but great review! Totally, Romeo & Juliet in Chemistry Class, but with nice ending.
